So you’ve sewn a tie (or some other kind of closed-end tube) that needs to be turned right side out.  Here’s an easy way to do it, step by step.

insert pen

Insert pen (or pencil or stick or something equally as classy) into the closed end of your tie by jimmying it in there.  I don’t really have any magic beans for this technique, just get it in there without ripping anything.

It should look like this when you get it all situated.

Push the fabric encased pen up against your belly to get it moving…

push push

and gently start pushing.  Remember that the pen is a guide for getting the closed end of the tie through the little fabric tunnel.  Be gentle.  If you push too hard, it will pop right through the seam and then you have to go back and fix it.  Tug at things and gently push until you see the pen pop out the open end:

Sometimes, this seems endless.

Now pull the rest of the tie through the open end.  I just grab the pen to keep the tie from getting all wrinkled but you can do what works for you.

And though it’s handy to always have a pen around, you should probably go ahead and remove it from the tie.  Just hold up the closed end and let gravity do its thing.
