it begins with a colour: look up

my boys on the lake in Hyalite Canyon yesterday

This week’s it begins with a colour treasure hunt was “Look Up”.  As the mama of a busy little boy who is constantly on the move and a wee tiny girl who wants nothing more than to look up into the mirrors of her purty blue eyes, looking up isn’t something I do a whole lot right now.  Spending a week looking up was actually a bit out of my comfort zone.  And that’s good.

More looking up:

Though of course I spent a lot of time looking down.  I can’t resist the view.

And before we were chased out by an alpine thunderstorm, I spent some time looking down on the ground for chunks of driftwood ~ driftwood to concoct myself a fancy little spinning tool called a niddy noddy.

You guys ready to see the wheel?  She’s all cleaned up and ready to whirl…

some kinda big news

No, I’m not pregnant.

After a long, long, long investigation of all things website and blog related, I have finally decided which direction to head next.  This blog will be moving *kind of* but not really.  I’m upgrading to WordPress.org, which is the hosted version of WordPress.com (the blogging platform I currently use).

What’s the difference?  Well, let’s just say things will look very similar still but I’ll be able to tweak things exactly the way I want them.

When I figure out how.

You can watch the progress and laugh at me at will at www.thepeacefulpeacock.com.  Hey, if Martha Stewart uses it, it’s gotta be good.

head and shoulders, knees and toes

We’ve got a talker on board now.  Simple words.

CAR.

TRUCK.

CARTRUCK.

TRUCKCARTRUCK.

He likes trucks.  And apparently cars.  A lot.

He also likes his sister.  She comes with words too:  noh (nose), aiiiy (eye).

And like me with Spanish, he understands a whole lot more than he lets on.  Our conversation during a diaper change the other night:

“Gick-er!!” with a kiss to the forehead.  “Uhsssat?!” pointing to–well, of course you know where.

“That’s Gick-er’s vagina, darling.”

“Cooooooool.”

Yes, baby.  Vaginas are mighty cool.

it begins with a colour: wild card

This week’s treasure hunt for it begins with a colour… was to squash as many colors as possible into one frame.  Easy peasy with our new diaper bag:

You might remember this from a few posts ago but here it is all finished and home from the Community Food Co-op’s Earth Day Art Show.   It’s made from recycled maternity jeans (huzzah!!) and scraps of vintage fabrics that I’ve collected over the years during yard sale quests.  I love it because it’s big enough to carry supplies for both little beans but it doesn’t look like I’m loaded up with enough gear to summit Everest.

foodie friday

Dear <insert nom de plume for the infinite light of all of creation here>,

Please give me the foresight and creativity to make the following conversation fit into a brown burlap bag so that I may throw it in the river to drown:

“What do you want to eat for dinner?”

“I don’t know.   Is there anything that you might have in mind?”

“I don’t care, I could go for anything.”

“Whatever you want, it’s up to you.”

Thank you <insert above mentioned nomer here>.  Before five o’clock would be lovely.

aloha, friends!

I’m making the jump to WordPress.org so that I can make this thing as fancy as I want.  Once I figure it out.  Hey, if Martha Stewart uses it, it’s gotta be good. ;)

Later, skaters!

it begins with a colour: studio at daybreak

This week’s it begins with a colour assignment was to examine contrast.  I love these little treasure hunts!!  Not only does it help me keep my blog in motion, it really forces me to concentrate on developing my artistic eye.

I looked to my studio this week for inspiration…with the summer market starting on Saturday it’s where I’ve been spending the majority of my free time.  In the quiet moments before the little beans awaken, I sit at my table drinking a cup of spearmint tea–calendar, to-do list, and favorite pen nearby.  This is the window out of which my deep-in-thought eyes gaze.

And if you really want to know the truth, I’m usually eating candy too because the children are asleep and I don’t have to share.
